Overview
Starting as a humble brick room built in the 19th century, this church now serves over 1,500 attendees in a 60,000 sqft facility every Sunday. As part of its commitment to deepen community connection and elevate the guest experience, the church sought to transform its lower-level lobby and children’s center into a more engaging, inspiring environment for families and new members. The $1.2M remodel focused on building upon the church’s established identity, amplifying its values, and creating a welcoming, story-driven space for both long-time members and new visitors. Results

Creative Concept: Guided Journey
The creative process began with an intensive series of brand workshops designed to uncover the church’s authentic identity, future vision, and the emotional experience they wanted to create for families. Through archetype mapping, persona development, and leadership interviews, we distilled the brand’s core attributes: Christ-centered, inclusive, approachable, and grounded in a warm, rugged simplicity. I led the development of mood board, design studies, and customer journey mapping pinpointing critical touchpoint for first-time guests and returning families. This allowed the team to align functional needs with expressive storytelling, guiding decisions from spatial flow and signage placement to color psychology and materiality. The creative concept centered on translating the church’s mission to serve families on their journey to Christ. Building from the existing visual identity, we developed an expanded brand system that paired the church’s minimal, masculine aesthetic with fresh layers of warmth, vibrancy, and youthful energy. This balance was especially important in the children's center, where the design needed to feel spirited and welcoming while still reflective of the church’s overall brand. Color was a key storytelling device with the church’s primary palette became the anchor, while new supporting hues added brightness and life to the children’s areas. Graphic motifs were carefully woven throughout the space, drawing inspiration from themes of adventure, growth, and movement—reflecting both the church’s personality and the metaphorical “journey up a mountain” that guided the narrative.Materiality reinforced this story, blending natural wood tones, soft textiles, and rich leather accents to create an environment that felt relaxed, grounded, and intentionally warm. These elements helped bridge the rugged brand undertone with the hospitality-driven environment essential for welcoming families and new attendees.
Customer journey mapping informed the placement of high-impact branded moments, from an inviting lobby and intuitive check-in area to a dynamic multi-purpose space used for children’s worship and community events. Each touchpoint was designed to communicate the church’s mission, vision, and heart—creating a cohesive experience that elevates both spiritual connection and everyday functionality.
